Spirit of the Blitz

A-0107 Spirit of the Blitz Poster by Ken Wood

After losing the Battle of Britain Hilter instructed the LuftwAffe to attack London.  From the 7th of September 1940 until the 11th May 1941 London was systematically bombed resulting in large civilian casulalties and vast devastation of the London docks, factories and civilian homes.  London’s iconic buildings did not escape the bombing, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace were all hit.  St Paul’s Cathedral although a target for the German bombers avoided serious damage, and the iconic dome stood out like an beacon on the night that became known as the second great fire of London.

Ordinary Londonders sheltered from the bombing at night and by day went about their normal business showing great courage and resiliance which became known as the Blitz Spirit.  Take a trip in an iconic Black Taxi with your knowledgeable cab guide and re-live THE SPIRIT OF THE BLITZ.
